The Civic AI Program is a collaborative initiative designed to empower South African non-profit organisations (NPOs) with artificial intelligence (AI) and digital tools to enhance their civic impact. It is led by Phambano Technology Development Centre NPC, powered by Microsoft ELEVATE, to build ICT capacity for all civil society employees and beneficiaries of not for profits.

Not for Profit (registered and unregistered) Employees and Beneficiaries and anyone interested in furthering their understanding of the impact of AI on their lives, work and studies.

Our platform offers a wide range of digital learning content designed to empower individuals with the skills needed for today’s world. From foundational digital literacy to advanced technology training, learners gain practical, career-ready knowledge through interactive modules, guided lessons, and hands-on experiences.

South Africa has over 290,000 registered and about 500,000 unregistered NPOs, many struggling with digital transformation and sustainability. Civic AI helps bridge this gap by:
